Illinois American Waterthe largest regulated water and wastewater utility in the USis making a splash in its home state with a $200,000 donation to help clean up the Ohio River.

The utility has awarded a grant to the Foundation for Ohio River Education to help clean up the river, as well as to the Lewis and Clark Community College Foundation to provide water resource education kits for festival teachers and to install a water fountain and bottle filling station at a youth sports complex, reports the Belleville News-Democrat.

The foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is part of the American Water Charitable Foundation, which aims to make "greater and meaningful impacts on these shared goals and enhance the well-being of the communities we are part of," says Illinois American Water President Rebecca Losli.

The other six organizations that received grants:Ducks Unlimited for the Horseshoe Lake Flooding and Restoration Project near Granite City, which will restore a 286-acre floodplain project to improve flood storage, wildlife habitat, and recreation.

Lewis and Clark Community College for the Water Festival Educator Workshop in Godfrey, which will provide water resource education training and curriculum kits for festival teachers.Peoria Park District for the community Illinois River clean up and Illinois River Sweep education efforts with the local schools.
