Innovations in Health: The Future of Weight Loss Strategies

If you're trying to lose weight but don't seem to be able to stick to it, it may be because you're not motivated to exercise.

That's according to Danielle Ostendorf, a researcher at the University of Colorado Anschutz Health and Wellness Center who has found that people who enjoy exercise are more likely to stick with it for long-term weight loss.

"The body prefers to be at a higher weight and internally fights a person's weight loss efforts," Ostendorf tellswellnessconnections.com.

"High levels of physical activity can help to counteract these physiological mechanisms and promote weight loss maintenance."

In her research, Ostendorf found that people who enjoyed exercise were more likely to stick with it long-term, and she's now designing a program to help adults who are trying to lose weight but don't seem to be able to stick with it stick with exercise for longer than a year.

(Ostendorf is the author of a book on the subject.)
