Center for Innovation Provides an Array of Experiences

When Vance County Schools in Henderson, North Carolina, decided to turn an old high school into a learning center, it found an anonymous donor who put up what the school district calls a "substantial anonymous donation."

And so the Center for Innovation was born, with three of the district's schools (STEM Early High, Advance Academy, and Vance Virtual Village Academy) housed there, as well as a video lab, zSpace 3D/VR lab, audio lab, Simulation Labs for Interactive Career Exploration, and Mindsphere MakerSpace lab, per a district press release.

The idea was to "foster confident, creative problem solvers who love to learn and explore," saysKristin Jeffreys, coordinator for the Center for Innovation.

And that's exactly what's happened, with students able to dissect a frog, see the anatomy of a heart, or make a 3D model of a house, per the press release.

"Through hands-on STEM integration, we're fostering confident, creative problem solvers who love to learn and explore," Jeffreys says.

And that's exactly what's happening at the center, which opened in July 2021.

Per the press release, each space is "different by design but works cohesively to maximize the experiences of every student."
