If you're one of the millions of people who don't eat meat or dairy for a variety of reasonsenvironmental, ethical, or healthwhy not drink plant-based milk? You're not alone.
Some 30% of people surveyed by market research company Euromonitor International say they drink plant-based milk because they feel healthier, reports FoodNavigator.
"The main reason is perception of these products as healthy," says Maria Mascaraque, a food and nutrition expert at Euromonitor.
The company also found that 19.4% of people say they drink plant-based milk because they digest them better, compared to 13.8% of people who say they're allergic to dairy and 6.5% of people in Europe who say they're lactose intolerant.
There are a number of reasons for people to switch to plant-based milk, including the fact that dairy cows are often kept in a state where they can produce large volumes of milk, which leaves them exhausted and in pain, as well as health concerns, including lower saturated fat and lower protein and iodine content than animal milk.
