$36M in Grants from HHS for Population Health and Big Data Projects

The Department of Health and Human services will issue $36 million in grants to 50 of the nations Health Center Controlled Networks this month. These grants will be used to improve the IT of these health centers so that analysis can be done on population data to better serve the communities.

The clinics receiving these grants are mostly safety net clinics who provide care to patients on a sliding scale based on their ability to pay. About 1 out of 14 patients in the USA receive care from these clinics. Including around ten percent of the nations children and a large portion of the homeless population.

The states receiving the highest amounts of grant funding are California, Florida and Texas respectively. The grants will help bring advanced IT to clinics in areas that are currently under-served by the medical community
