Climate Change Turns Food Insecurity into National Security Crisis

Climate change is already taking a serious toll on Pakistan's economy, with the country ranked 14th globally for economic losses and 25th for economic losses per unit GDP, according to the Sustainable Development Policy Institute.

And that's not just affecting the economy, it's affecting the country's food security, too.

"Climate change poses a significant threat to Pakistan's national, socio-economic, and macro-economic stability, with the country ranking 14th globally for economic losses and 25th for economic losses per unit GDP," Abid Qaiyum Suleri, executive director of the SDPI, said at a seminar last week, per the Express Tribune.

The country is already grappling with food shortages, as well as high levels of malnutrition, and experts say that unless changes are made, Pakistan will be facing a food crisis by the end of the century, the Washington Post reports.
