Gulf Coast Community Foundation Provides Half a Million in Rapid Hurricane Recovery Support

In the wake of hurricanes Irma and Maria, the Gulf Coast Community Foundation has set up a Rapid Response Fund to provide $500,000 in "life-sustaining support to boots-on-the-ground nonprofit organizations that provide immediate shelter, food and water, case managers and case navigators, mental health services, and humanitarian muck and gut to those impacted by the recent hurricanes."
The first grant from the fund was awarded to the United Way of South Sarasota County just seven hours before Hurricane Milton made landfall, the foundation said in a press release, per the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.
"Because of this steadfast dedication, the first grant from our Rapid Response Fund was awarded to United Way of South Sarasota County seven hours before Hurricane Milton's landfall," said Gulf Coast CEO Phillip Lanham.
The Rapid Response Fund has so far awarded 18 grants totaling more than $500,000, the press release notes.
