It's been 20 years since TimberTown Park was built in Chelsea, Mich., but that doesn't mean it's been neglected.
That's why community members are coming together to revamp the park, which has seen its share of neglect over the years.
"It's a very special thing to be a part of a project that improves my children's favorite park, but also one that will outlast my days," Emily Taylor Penix tells MLive.com.
To that end, members of the community are coming together to rebuild the park, which will include a new play structure, new pickelball courts, a path to a trailhead, and more.
"It's going to be an amazing week," co-chair Shawn Personke says.
"Hundreds of volunteers of all ages and skill levels working together over 5-6 days to complete the project will be an amazing experience for everyone involved," adds Jeff Hardcastle, a co-chair of the project.
The effort is called the Picket Legacy Program, which allows community members to "sponsor" a fence picket as part of the project, which will be matched up to $100,000 by the community and up to $50,000 by an anonymous donor.
