More Than $82 Million Nih Grant to Propel Ccts Forward

Researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham have been awarded $82 million over seven years from the National Center for Advancing Digital Sciencea record-breaking amount for the center, which aims to "transform the future of clinical and Translational Science outcomes in the Deep South," per a press release.

The Center for Clinical and Translational Science has been working in the region for more than 15 years, and its mission is to capitalize on the "unique expertise and capacity in translational science in the Deep South to enhance the translation of fundamental clinical research into improvements for human health and health care delivery," the release notes.

Four of the center's grantsfor a total of $82 million over the next seven yearswill be linked to the UAB's Center for Clinical and Translational Science at Louisiana State University, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the University of Mississippi, and the University of Alabama in Birmingham, the press release notes.

Under the latest grant, the center will work to create a "highly integrated digital ecosystem encompassing clinical and biomedical informatics" that will "foster discovery, dissemination, and implementation of new interventions to improve the health of our communities," per the release.
