Apple is expected to unveil a new line of iPads at its May 7 event, and one name being bandied about is that of OLED displays.

OLED stands for "organic light-emitting-diode" technology, and Gizmodo reports that the screens will be about the size of a large smartphone.

One difference between an OLED display and a regular LED screen is that the latter emits less blue light, which can disrupt sleep and the body's natural circadian rhythm, according to the American Medical Association.

"Being on the frontlines of digital health innovation, I'm excited about the integration of OLED technology in iPads and how it could revolutionize the way we approach cognitive health and digital therapeutics," the CEO of a company that makes dementia-friendly videos for seniors writes on his blog.

"With their improved visual quality and reduced blue light emission, OLED iPads could create an even more immersive and comforting experience for users."
