Greening the Concrete Jungle: Pakistan'S Path to Climate Resilience

Pakistan's capital is home to more than 200 million people and is expected to see a massive increase in population by 2050 as the country's economy continues to grow at a rapid rate, the BBC reports.

In fact, the country's cities are expected to see a massive loss of green space over the next few decades, according to a report by the country's Planning and Development Authority.

Experts say the loss of green space is linked to pollution, climate change, and rapid population growth.

"There is a ray of hope as countries worldwide champion innovative green initiatives to tackle climate change and foster sustainable living environments for their citizens," Pakistan's APP news agency quotes an environmentalist as saying.

Experts recommend green roofs, vertical gardens, and tree-planting campaigns to combat climate change, improve biodiversity, and improve air quality.

"Urgent reforms are needed to ensure cities become more livable through integrated land use planning and increased investments in municipal services, energy efficiency, and clean transportation," the APP report states.
