The NBA Foundation has handed out $8.6 million in grants to 45 organizations across the country in its latest round of funding,QUEEN City News reports.
Three Charlotte-based nonprofits received grants: the Gantt Center for African-American Arts Culture, the Relatives, and ElevateMeD.
The Gantt Center celebrates art, history, and culture of Africans and African Americans; the Relatives supports more than 5,000 homeless and runaway youth annually; and ElevateMeD is a national organization that aims to increase physician workforce diversity and improve cultural competence among physicians to reduce health disparities.
"These organizations are doing remarkable things to drive education and economic opportunity in the Black community, particularly among youth," says a rep for the Hornets Sports & Entertainment, which donates $1 million to the NBA Foundation each year.
