New Youth Innovation Hub Coming to St. John'S

"It will change lives."

That's what a government official in Canada is saying about a project that will see a building in St.

Labrador renovated to help at-risk youth find work, the CBC reports.

The existing Choices for Youth building in the city will be renovated to create spaces for social impact, innovation, and economic development, as well as an energy-efficient space where up to 100 young people can learn new skills.

"With this support, Choices for Youth can continue to build on its 30-year legacy of empowering at-risk youth to realize their potential and achieve their aspirations," the government's minister of housing, infrastructure, and communities says in a statement.

The federal and provincial governments are each providing $4.3 million for the project, which is expected to reduce the building's energy consumption by 84% and greenhouse gas emissions by 3.8 tons annually.

Choices for Youth is a nonprofit that helps at-risk youth find jobs and start their own businesses.

"This investment won't just help young people learn the skills they need to make a real difference in the workplace," the group's director says.

"It will change lives."
