After 21 years, Alberto Cort's is stepping down as CEO of Mama's Kitchen in San Diego.
Under Cort's watch, the HIV-focused nonprofit grew from a $1.7 million nonprofit to a $5.5 million one, expanded its nutrition programs and services to more than 350 healthcare providers, and became a founding member of the California Food Is Medicine Coalition, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
"The work of Mama's Kitchen is as vital today as it was when its doors opened in 1990, and the demand for services has expanded exponentially," outgoing CEO Eva Matthews says in a press release.
"Mama's Kitchen's visionary leadership in addressing the growing need for medically tailored meals in San Diego with innovationas well as with heartis what drew me to this role and excites me about our future," says Matthews, a San Diego resident who has 27 years of public health, non-profit, and research experience.
Mama's Kitchen was founded in 1990 to provide food to people with critical illnesses, and over the past 10 years, it has expanded from simply providing food to providing complex medically tailored nutrition, per the Union-Tribune.
