The executive director of a Missouri nonprofit was indicted Thursday on charges that she stole millions from a program that feeds low-income children, the St.
Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
According to a federal indictment, Connie Bobo and the New Heights Community Resource Center falsely claimed to have served 3 million meals over a three-year period.
The nonprofit received $11 million from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services as part of the state's Food and Nutrition Program for Children.
Prosecutors say Bobo used the money to buy a $4.3 million home, make a $2.2 million commercial real estate investment, spend $1.4 million of it on luxury goods, and give $1.4 million to her romantic partner.
She's also accused of submitting false management plans and falsely claiming that three people were on the nonprofit's board.
Bobo, 44, faces three felony counts of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, as well as two felony counts of obstruction of an official proceeding.
