India'S First 'Medical Cobotics Centre' at Iiit Delhi to Boost Innovation in Health

If you're a doctor in India, you'll soon be able to get your hands on a state-of-the-art medical simulator.

The country's Department of Science and Technology and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi have teamed up to create the Medical Cobotics Centre, which will be "the first state-of-the-art technology-enabled medical simulation and training facility for doctors, paramedics, technicians, engineers, biomedical researchers, and entrepreneurs," per a press release.

The center, which opened Friday, will serve as a place for doctors, paramedics, engineers, and entrepreneurs to learn about cutting-edge medical technologies, including AR/VR, AI, cobotics, robotics, cognitive sciences, and such, the press release notes.

It will also serve as a test bed for start-ups developing technologies in the medical field.

"In general, most people believe that doctors have unlimited abilities," Dr. Ekta Kapoor, a scientist at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, tells the Times of India.

"However, it is important to understand that doctors are also humans who rely on technology to deliver effective treatments."

Indeed, the Times of India notes that India's annual medical bill is more than double that of the US
