"At just $4 a day for two meals, students can be fed, healthy, and set up for academic success, and we see that as a win-win for parents and students."
That's the message from the director of school nutrition in Chatham County, Ga., where the school board last week voted to make breakfast free for all students in all schools and give high school students a second chance to get a breakfast during breaks, the Savannah Morning News reports.
The board also voted to raise the price of lunch from $4 to $5 for the 2023-24 school year and to increase the price of breakfast from $3 to $5 for high school students.
The move is part of a larger effort by school districts across the country to make sure all students get a good breakfast and lunch.
The National School Lunch and Breakfast programs provide free or low-cost meals to students in grades K through 12.
