A new report from the World Health Organization calls for "innovative solutions" to some of Europe's biggest health challenges, including neglected tropical diseases, HIV, tuberculosis, and an aging population, the BBC reports.
According to the report, WHO's European Region faces "pressing health challenges," including noncommunicable diseases, tobacco use, vaccine-preventable diseases, vector-borne diseases, HIV, multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, antimicrobial resistance, and an aging population.
The report calls for solutions "ranging from remote monitoring and artificial intelligence to novel vaccination strategies and advanced surveillance systems."
The report was presented at a WHO meeting this week in Brussels, Belgium, the Guardian reports.
According to the BBC, WHO's European Region accounts for more than a third of the world's tuberculosis cases and more than half of the world's HIV cases.
The report calls for innovation policies, governance, public-private relations, and the financing of public health innovation.
The WHO hopes to create a "Collaborative Platform for stakeholders to collectively tackle these challenges using innovative approaches and emerging technologies."
